Comparing My Research
When completing all the different types of research there were parts which I found more helpful when creating my advertisement.
When talking and getting feedback from the target audience by completing the questionnaires and the interviews etc. I found that this information was very helpful. It allowed me to see what the target audience wanted in the advert. This allowed me to base the advert around what they wanted in the advert making it more successful as the advert will be made for the audience.
The research I did into the competitors was also useful. I don't think it was quite as helpful as the research using the target audience. It did allow me to see the types of adverts in the industry already so that I could either stick with the conventions or challenge the conventions which will push my advert to be more successful. I chose to challenge some conventions but also use some of them which gave me a mix and by challenging some it has pushed my advert to being a little more unique and fresh.
The research into the production was helpful as well, I think this was the least helpful but still vital in the making of my advert. This research helped me set a budget for the advert and also how much it will cost to advertise the video on television. However, I think that the research into the target audience was more important as that helped me decide what went into the video.
Overall, I think that all the research I carried out was important and was necessary but I do feel some parts of the research were more importing when creating the advert. I don't think the advert would be as successful as it is now if I didn't do one of these different types of research but I think the research into the target audience would have the biggest impact on the advert if I hadn't of done the research.

Uploading And Exporting My Music Video
Uploading:
When uploading my footage to the Mac it allowed me to see the type of footage I had. This was the first really time I got to see the actual footage I had. Once I had imported the footage into IMovie I imported it to final cut which allows me to edit the music video a lot easier then IMovie. As final cut has layer it allows me to put every performance shot on a different layer so that I have to match it to the song once. This then allows me to edit between the performance shots and the narrative shots with ease as I don't need to synch the shots anymore. Using this technique it allowed me to get a good quick pace to the video.
Exporting:
When exporting the music video for the final time, I used Quick Time Conversions, this gave me the best quality video I could using Final Cut. Once I had finished exporting my music video I could then upload it to YouTube. This opened up the door to me as I could then do much more things with the music video. I could show it to the client and get feedback from them without having to meet them. I could also show it to a select audience which could give me feedback. If there was a lot of things which my client and the target audience gave me then I would have made a fourth draft with all the improvements.

Analysis Of Feedback
The information I collected with my focus group and my questionnaire was mostly positive feedback. When reviewing the information I can see that there were some things that everyone agreed on. A good amount of people said that the title colours clashed with the background colours and that this made them hard to read.
Most people which watched the advert said that they enjoyed the music, it worked well the advert. The students from the focus group agreed that the music reminded them of a shopping channel. This was the kind of music I wanted as on shopping channels they are trying to sell products, and in my advert I am trying to sell the Glenthorne Media Academy to the audience.
The people who filled out the questionnaire were mostly happy and enjoyed the advert, however four people did say that they didn't enjoy the advert and that they wouldn't join the academy. Three of these people said that they didn't enjoy it because they were not that interested in media to start with. This was the same reason give to why they wouldn't join the media academy. The other person said that the titles were to hard to read as the colours contrasted and they were not on the screen long enough. They also stated that they would have liked to have seen some of the teachers in the academy.
The titles were not dis-liked by everyone, some people did they that they liked the title font and the colours which were used. They said that they liked the red as it matched the sixth form logo colour. Some people did say that they would have liked the text to be the same font as the sixth form logo as it would have kept some continuity in the advert as well as make the font the background one colour instead of having a gradient which made the text harder to read.
The questionnaire also showed me that the target audience liked seeing the students work in the music video. 14 out of 20 people said that they liked the use of students work in the advert. This was the second favorite thing in the advert behind the music used which 15 people said they liked.
Overall, the feedback that I have received from both the focus group and the questionnaires has been very helpful to me as they have given me lots of different points which I could make changes on in my advert. This would be very helpful if I was to create a third draft as I could make the advert even more successful with the feedback that my target audience gave me.

Focus Group and Focus Group Questions
Focus Group
Focus Group Questions:
Focus Group Questions:
- What do you think about the music ?
- Do you think it works for the academy video?
- Is there anything else you would have like to have seen in the video?
- What do you think about the titles?
- Were they hard to read?
- Would you join the Glenthorne Media Academy after seeing the advert?
Evaluation Questionnaire
Here is a summary of the data which was recorded using the questionnaire:
5. The biggest reason why people didn't like the advert was because they weren't interested in media, three of the people of the people that said they didn't enjoy it don't take and interest in media, the other person said it was too short and the teachers should have been shown.
9. Those that didn't like the titles said that they were too hard to read as the red font and the blue and white background were to hard to read as the colours clashed so it was difficult to read them in the short about of time that they were on screen.
11. The four people who said no they wouldn't join the media academy were the same four people who said that they didn't enjoy the advert. The reasons they gave were the same as the reason for not enjoying the advert, which was that they aren't that interested in taking media in the future so wouldn't join the media academy.

Rushes Log And Edit Decision
Edit Decision
Here is my edit decision, it shows you the order of the shots which I have used, I have chosen to put the shots in this order as I think it is the best and most appropriate way to show the different shots and it will be the best way for me to target my audience. By doing this edit decision and the rushes log below they will tell you what the advertisement looks like as you can see what each shot is and what they show.
Rushes Log
Here are my rushes log, these are used to log of my footage so that it is easier for me to decide what shots work and which ones I will not be using. By having the rushes log I can use this to help me edit as if I need a shot I can look over the rushes and see what the different shots are with out having to open each shot to see what it is. I made the decisions to not use some of the shots. There was different reasons to why i'm not using the shots with some of the shots being framed badly or there isn't enough happening in the shot which will make it boring for the audience to watch.
Decisions, Revisions And Results When Filming, Uploading and Exporting My Rushes
Filming
When filming my rushes I made many different decisions and revisions which made the out come of my advertisement what it is. When filming my rushes I kept looking at my storyboards but when shooting some of the shots, I would check on camera to see how they turned out and they didn't turn out as I wanted them to. So I made the decision to change the way I filmed the shot so that it worked better and looked more interesting for my target audience. I did this with all the shots which I thought wouldn't work in my advertisement, this allowed me to re-film the shots before uploading which saved me time, allowing me to have more time to edit my work.
Uploading
When uploading, I used IMovie this allows me to upload all of my footage quick and easy. By using IMovie I have been able to optimize my work so that it is the right size and format for me to import it in to Final Cut. Once my footage is in Final Cut I changed the name of the clips so that they were easier to find and when creating my rushes log it makes it easier for me to write about and find it when I'm looking for it in Final Cut.
Exporting
Once I had finished editing all of the advertisement and I was happy with standard of the work, I exported the work using Final Cut. I exported it using quick time conversions which allowed me to export it to a good level of quality. Once it had exported and I was happy with it, I uploaded it to YouTube which allowed me to embed the video on to my blog and it makes it easier for the client and others to view it without having to get in contact with me about seeing it.

Media Academy Advert Final Version
Here is my final version of my advertisement, after I was given feed back on my first draft from the client I went away and made the changes to the advert. I made the decision to change the title, both the font and the background. I wanted to change the font as the client said it wasn't professional enough, I changed the font with the background as it added the creativity that I believed I was missing in the advertisement. I also made the other changes that the client asked me to, by doing this I believe that I have made a successful advert for the Glenthorne Media Academy which will target the right age and will hopefully gain awareness of the media academy which will get more students for the media academy.

Rough Cut and Feed Back
Here is the first draft of my advertisement for the media academy, as you can see it is not the finished product yet as it is not to a high and professional standard. I am happy with the advert as a first draft as it ticks all the boxes and has everything I needed in it. I just need to make some small adjustments which will add that little bit of creativity to the advert which it lacks at the moment. Below you can see a representative from my client Glenthorne and she watched the advert and gave me some feed back on it.
As you can see the representative from Glenthorne is happy with the advertisement as a first draft which is a good sign, she gives me the feed back which I need to change on the advert so that the client will be happy with the standard of the advert. By making the small changes I will make the advert more successful in reaching the target audience and will have more chance of making new students join the academy.

Music Video
Here is my final Music Video, as you can see it quite different from the last draft. I improved on the small things which my client told me to, this allowed me to make the music video even better. I also changed the concept slightly as I feel the new one works better and looks more professional. The basic idea is the same as someone is still controlling the artist but they are doing it in a slightly different way. By doing the video for a third time it has allowed me to see my own mistakes as well as what I have done well. I am now pleased with the final music video and there are not a lot of things I would change if I had the chance. I am happy that I have changed the string shots with the controller shots as I think they are framed better and are more appealing to the target audience. I would have liked to have kept the doll idea but I couldn't make it look professional which was letting the rest of the msuic video down.

Paper Edit and Rushes
Here is me creating my rushes, this will help me as I will know what footage I have and whether it is any good. By creating these rushes it will save me time when I come to editing as I can look at these so I know what clips I can use and where I could use them. The sheets help me write about each clip as it gets me to write in a lot of detail.
I will use these sheets to help me make my final music video. They will save me time when editing as I will not have to open every clip to see what it is, I can look at my rushes. By saving time on not having to open every clip I will have more time to edit making the music video to a professional standard piece of work.
Here is a short video of me using my paper edit. After I had finished filming and creating my rushes I made a paper edit of my music video. This is a sheet which looks like the time line on the editing software. On this sheet I drew each clip and where I wanted it, I then used this sheet to help me edit. This again saved me time as I didn't have to think about what I wanted and for how long I wanted it, I could copy the paper edit. Once I had created the paper edit on the editing software I watched it back and made sure everything looked good and to a high standard. There were some parts to the music video which didn't flow as I wanted them so I changed them making the music flow and making it a professional standard piece of work.
Here are my rush logs in a gif so that you can see what the documents look like once they are all field out.
Here is my paper edit for my music video. As you can see the performance shots are at the bottom as they are the shots you will see most. Also you can see the narrative shots at the top which might only be seen the once like on the top track there is only the one shot.

Filming My Rushes Using my Planning Documents
- Shooting Schedule - My shoot schedule helped me keep up with where and when I am suppost to be. It told me what days I am filming and what location, this helped me during the process as it made it a lot easier to make sure everything was filmed in time for me to start editing. This also gives me a quick list of the main props and costumes that are needed on the location. Below you can see me looking at my shooting schedule. This helps as I know what location to go to and what I need to shoot.
- Storyboard - When on the location I can use my storyboards to help set up a shot. This will help me save time on shooting which means I have more time editing. Also by using my storyboards it means I wont have to think about each shot I can just set it up and see if it looks good. If for some reason the shot doesn't work as I wanted it to I can always change it or if I get a better idea I can use that. This is the good thing about stroyboards, they are there to help but they are not set so that I have to do it the same if I want to change a shot. Below you can see me using my storyboards to help me set up the shot.
- Props, Costume, Make Up - This planing documnet tells me the props and costumes that are needed. It goes in to more detail about why and what it is used for. This will help explain to any crew members why I need that prop, the costumes are also explained to why we need them.
- Location Visit - The location visit helped me decided what locations to use and why they would work well for my music video. This document gets me to think about the locations and how praticle it would be to film in, it also gets me to think about what are the positives and negatives are of each location I chose.
- Treatment - My treatment helped me summaries everythng I neeeded. It tells me the locations im using, the budget, the structure of my music video and more. By helping me create a budget for my music video I know how much Im going to spend and need to create the music video. This is an important part as I don't want to spend to much on the music video, so by budgeting my self I can try and keep it quite cheap. Below is my treatment:
- Proposal - In my proposal I sum up what my music video is about. This planning document helped me create my storyboards. By doing my proposal it made me write down in detail what my music video is about and what the lyrics mean. This then alloowed me to think about what I want the audience to see in the music video. When looking at the lyrics the phrase, "Strumming on my heart strings like you were a grade 8" appeared and this made me think that the women is controlling him. This then made me think of a puppet being controlled which controls the artist. This is now the main narrative of my music video, and by creating my proposal helped me come up with the idea. Here is my proposal:
- Risk Assessment - My risk assessment will help keep me safe. This will tell me the dangers that are around me. By having a risk assessment I can keep aware for all the dangers, where as if I had to find the dangers on the day it would waste my time where I could be filming. Here is my risk Assessment:

Rough Edit 2
Here is my second draft of my music video. As you can see from my first draft there has been a lot of progress, however I will still need to improve my video if I want to reach my target grade. Since my first draft I have added more the narrative, with shots of the performer being controlled with ribbon, I have also re shoot some footage which was shaky. At the moment my music video is at a merit, and for me to reach distinction I will need to re-shoot some footage. The shots with ribbon need to be shot again as I could try and be more animated in them. I will also need to make the doll shots more extreme so that it is more abstract and makes the audience more interested in the narrative. Some of the performance shots will also need to be re-filmed, as they are badly framed leaving lots of head room in the shot.

FeedBack For Draft One
Here is feedback that I have recived for my first draft of my music video. As you can see there is quite a bit for me to do which will improve my music video. If I can improve on all of the things my client had given me then I should be able to make the music video more successful There still might be some smaller issues with the music video but overall it will be a much more solid music video.

Annotated Proposal
Like my treatment I made some changes to my proposal as it gives me a chance to change speeling mistakes, this will help my overall grade as profeesional work will have no mistakes, so to make mine as professional as I possible can I checked it changing any spelling and grammer mistakes.
Annotated Treatment
Here are my some improvements I have made to my treatment. I read throguh my treatment looking for any little or big mistakes, this will help my get my target grade of distinction as it allowed me to change some spelling and grammer mistakes to make sure I am doing the best I can with my work.

Casting Decisions
Casting Decisions:
Director: Shaun Hayden
Editor: Shaun Hayden
Actor: Shaun Hayden
Camera- Man: Shaun Hayden, James Smith
My casting decisions will show that I am planning to do this video on my own with a little help when it comes to moving shots like pans, tracks etc. I have also chosen to do most of the production by myself as it will keep the cost of the video down. By not employing other people we do not need to pay them, this will help keep the budget for the equipment and other important things that will be needed. Also by using me as the actor it portrays the right look for the video, I am the same age as the target audience, which will allow them to connect with me and relate to me. I have chosen to act because I suit the stereotype to which an audience would expect to see in the video, so by meeting their expectations they will like the video more.

Treatment
Treatment
Here is my treatment, this summaries everything I need to know about the music video. It shows me the idea and a rough idea of what I am going to shoot for the music video. It also shows me how much I need in my budget to get the camera and the editing software as well as an editor. It also shows me some important points that will take place such as the release will not take place until the client is completely satisfied etc.
Shooting Schedule
Here is my shooting schedule, I have spread the filming days over a week, this will allow me to upload the footage before the next time I shoot. This uses my time wisely so that I can get the most done in the least amount of time I need. Also by having this sheet which is so clear I can refer back to it and compare this with other planning documents so that I know what props and costumes and the health and safety issues are with the location etc. This planning document tells me everything I need to know, when I am filming, with who, what props are needed, everything. This is why this document is vital to the planning and production side of the video. I have then added in three dates in December which will allow me to re-shoot any shots that I need. i have allowed a day for each location to be re-shot if needed. By doing this I am aware that things might need to be re-filmed and it helps me staying on top as I know all footage should have been filmed by the end of the 5th of December.
Risk Assessment

Location
These locations are all easy for me to use and get to. They will allow me to get what I want out of them with no problems. This document makes sure that I have done my research on the locations, this helped me decide on what locations to use because it makes me go into detail on what and why I want to film there. So unless I can answer all the parts to the sheet, the location isn't what I'm looking for.

Storyboards
Here are my storyboards that I have drawn up, I made them using my locations that I have picked. So each sheet shows a different location, with each shot being filmed for the whole length of the song. This means I have a lot of footage which will be good when editing as I can keep a quick pace editing between lots of different shots.
